What is a functional appliance?

Functional Appliances are used in growing children to reduce prominent teeth and give an improved profile by bringing the lower jaw forwards. They usually consist of two removable appliances which are worn on the upper and lower teeth at the same time.

 

What is a fixed appliance?

We use fixed appliances to guide your teeth more accurately than can be done using a removable appliance. They are attached to the teeth and are removed by us at the end of your treatment. Fixed appliances are usually made of metal although you may prefer to have clear ceramic brackets which are much less noticeable.
